Home to the West Australian Ballet and Opera, His Majesty’s Theatre is believed to be the only remaining working Edwardian theatre in Australia, and is one of only two remaining His Majesty's Theatre's in the world.

Situated on the corner of King Street and Hay Street, Perth, the Edwardian Baroque theatre was the largest in Australia (when it opened on Christmas Eve in 1904) and known for its excellent acoustics. Over its first 70 years of life, His Majesty's played host to the traditional Shakespearean plays, opera, political rallies, boxing matches and movie screenings.

A jewel in the King Street crown, the Theatre has been renovated numerous times, most notably in the late 1970s when the State Government purchased it and performed an ornamental – but modern – restoration. Borrowing architectural elements from the 19th Century theatres of England and Europe, His Majesty's has become one of Western Australia's most-loved heritage icons and premier theatres.

The importance of His Majesty's Theatre to the cultural fabric of Western Australia has been recognised by its inclusion on the State Register of Heritage Places and the Register of the National Estate. It has also been named a "State Heritage Icon" and has been graced by the presence of luminaries including Judy Garland in 1964 and, most recently, Academy Award winner and Australian actor, Geoffrey Rush.
